Answers to all your questions about anxiety and panic attacks

How do u cure or make anxiety better? i don't like talking to psychologists because i always feel uncomfortable around them. also, one of my psychologists diagnosed me with aspergers, does this affect my anxiety? also, is it a good idea to try stealing prozac cuz im also depressed?
also can smoking weed help? i smoke weed usually i couple times a month

Don't steal. Most general practitioners will prescribe an SSRI rather than Prozac try to get Zoloft or Paxil they are both very effective with both anxiety disorder, social anxiety and depression

Actually Pot can aggravate anxiety in many people

What anxiety medication do you take and how did you first know you needed medication?

I take Zoloft for my anxiety. I know it is an antidepressant, but it also works as an anitanxiety medicine.
I first discovered that I needed to take medication when I was in seventh grade and I realized that I had a bunch of irrational fears about dying. I didn’t tell my parents, and my anxieties took over my life. My grades started dropping and I quickly became depressed. Then, the next year in eighth grade, it was even worse. I almost failed eighth grade because I couldn’t concentrate. Still, I didn’t tell my parents. My parents yelled at me and I felt even worse about myself. My self esteem got even lower, and I was determined to fight my anxiety and pass high school. In night grade, I tried my hardest to push away my anxieties, and I found that I thought that I could fight them by doing certain rituals which I would perform when I felt anxious, like pulling my hair, squeezing my skin, among other things to get my mind off of it. I managed to pass 9th grade with C’s, but I wanted to do better than that. Then, in 10th grade everything came crashing down when I had an awful biology teacher who triggered my anxiety and I basically broke down. I would cry every night, I would have about three to four anxiety attacks a day, and I wouldn’t do my homework at all. I felt like I was in a funk that I coudln’t get out of. Then, on the last day of the second marking period, I faced my fears and went to my guidance counselor about my anxiety. She called my parents and my parents got me help. After about three weeks on Zoloft, I felt so much better. Now, my anxiety only comes up everyone once in a while, and I know who I can talk to about it.
If you are having any problems with anxiety, catch it before it gets worse. My anxiety took over my life and it got way out of hand. I got help though, and you can too. Talk to someone close to you and they will get you help, if you need it.
I hope this helps!

Does Paxil Prozac Zoloft or Xanax help aid in weight loss/ appetite suppression?

I'm going to the doctor and am getting an antidepressant with anti anxiety and I'm afraid to take one that will make me eat tons. I've been on lexapro and effexor and they were so so.

Tips?

Wellbutrin helps with compulsive behaviors such as eating and smoking. It has been marketed as Zyban before to help people quit smoiking.

i’ve been dealing with anxiety disorder for 4 1/2 years. because of it, i am nauseous and dizzy every day. i have been going to therapy, accupressurist, and a hypnotist. i have also been on zoloft. clearly none of those worked. what else is there for me to try? i’m losing hope!

Ok,

Drink a glass of ICE cold water or suck on an ice cube, the cold hits a nerve at the back of the throat and slows your heart down.

Focus on every little detail around you, hinges of a chair, pattern on the walls, anything in minute detail. It will help distract you, talk them through to yourself.

Breathe in for 4 out for 4, breathe deep put your hand on your stomach and when you breathe in push the hand out. for a few minutes.

Propanalol helps with physical affects of anxiety, stops you shaking and slows your heart down. I am on 40mg prn.

I suffer badly with anxiety and i have taken also Lorazepam but this is highly addictive.

i also take Seroquel 50mg when i feel anxious prn.

I learnt the techniques when i was an inpatient at a private psychiatric hospital.

I also attach a useful link below.

did it affect your delivery? Not only in the state of having your children early or late, but also did it make delivery difficult? I have been reading on it because I have generalized anxiety disorder and it says that anxiety causes preterm labor. I’m just curious how many of you it affected. Thank you!

I have generalized anxiety also and see a psychatrist for it and have for almost a year. I was pregnant from February and delivered at 37 weeks and 3 days on October 14th. It didn’t affect my pregnancy or my delivery at all. I had to be induced due to severe preclampsia.

During my pregnancy I just tried to avoid stressful situations that seemed to cause me anxiety like dealing with my father in law who is an awful person. I started getting panic attacks dealing with him and his wife so I stopped seeing them at all, to protect myself and my baby.

Also, delivery wasn’t really all the difficult for me. I was nervous and anxious about being induced but once things got under way I was on so much pain medication that I felt pretty decent all things considered!

If you ask your Ob you can also take some medications while you are pregnant to help control anxiety and/or depression. I was prescribed Zoloft during my pregnancy but chose not to take it and do therapy instead. But my OB said it was safe to take as long as I was off of it by 36 weeks (assuming I would go full term) so the baby had enough time to get the drug out of its system.

I think you should be just fine. Just try to relax as much as you can an avoid things and or people that make your anxiety worse.

Good luck!

P.S. Anxiety can make you more likely to suffer from post partum deprssion and post partum anxiety after you deliver so be sure to watch out for the signs of those and get help if you need it. I’ve been diagnosed with both and am taking anti depressants and doing therapy every other week and it’s helped me cope a lot better with all of the changes going on.

What I mean is are there any medications that won’t effect breastfeeding? My counselor says that I am more than likely going to need help with the anxiety because it has gotten out of control but I don’t want to take breastfeeding away from my baby. Are there medications that are safe? Has anyone else gone through this?

I friend of mine had this happen to her; she started having such severe panic attacks that she needed to be on medication. First she tried Zoloft b/c it was ok for breastfeeding, but it wasn’t the right medication for her. She eventually did stop breastfeeding to go on a medication that could relieve her anxiety better. I think she was put on Lexapro or something like that. She also was having some trouble breastfeeding which was complicating the anxiety. Ultimately, while she was initially bummed, she feels so much better and feels so much better about the type of parent she is now that her anxiety is under control.

While breastfeeding is super important, so is your mental health. You may be doing great things for your baby by breastfeeding and not so great things for your baby by not getting the proper help you need with anxiety medication. Of course, do what you can to try to use meds approved for breastfeeding. Also try cognitive behavioral therapy or something else to help you cope without meds. But remember that being super anxious all the time isn’t helping you be a good parent. And in the long run, if it’s truly out of control, doing what’s best for you is definitely doing what’s best for your baby.

CHEST PAIN from anxiety?

Posted on: 21, Sep

so i have had anxiety for about 3 years now ever since i almost overdosed on cocaine ive been clean since and would NEVER NEVER NEVER think about ever using again but im 19 years old now almost 20 and i get anxiety alot and it seems like everytime it happens my left arm and chest start to hurt i feel like i cant breath and i get cold and clamy i feel like i did when i went to the ER for the drugs i was using and even tho its been 3 years i cant get that feeling out of my head and im just wondering it anxiety can be brought on by painful experiences like the one im describing???

The same thing happened to me. I was using crank though and the same thing happened. Although I was having the same exact pain for a year straight and thought it was because of the drugs I had used. Then one doctor told me that it wasn’t that it was because I had anxiety. he then prescribed at that time zoloft and it worked. THANK GOD!! I eventually stopped taking zoloft and it started again and now take paroxetine.

Anyways I think you should talk to your doctor about these symptoms to be certain that nothing else is wrong with you. If nothing else is wrong then more certain you do have anxiety and can cope with different methods like with meds, breathing techniques, and cognitive behavioral thearapy.

Take care and if you want to talk just e-mail me.
