b/c I’m so ADD what I was explaining is to talk yourself out of a panic attack, the same way your mind is convincing u u can’t breathe so tell yourself u’re okay, u’re breathing, check your pulse see your heart is still distributing blood, tell urself its all in ur mind, breathe in slowly and back out calming teling urself ur okay, ur not gonna die, everything is fine, you can breathe’ ___coping with anxiety and panic attacks physical and mental abuse being strangled 2 point of brusing my kneck and blacking out 2 having a real stroke, and how I dealt other methods with or without meds
Duration : 0:6:55
If you took medication with it or not would be helpful : ) my ocd is not really phobic as more irrational thinking.
i have a mild generalized anxiety disorder with OCD. I am on meds and am supposed to perform stress-relieving techniques everyday and both these things help. My phychiatrist says that my case is mild enough that i only need to see him once a year to make to make sure things are still ok. Him and I had lots of sessions at first tho, so that he could figure out what was wrong with me. He also gave me a peice of paper with a CBT cenario on it. For example, if ____happens then what willl be the worst that will happen? is this rational etc. and I fill in the blank. Actually it really helps me and now i dont even need the paper anymore, i threw it out cause i can ask myself those questions in my head so yeah it helped.

What foods or vitamins help relieve anxiety?
Hi hun,
I can’t recommend B-Vitamin Inositol (available online & in all health-food stores) It’s great with anxiety, obsessive compulsions & also good for hair & skin too.If you take any other meds, such as antidepressants then it also makes them more effective
take care
i have been in therapy for 3 years and on 20mg lexapro for the same length of time. a psychologist friend recently told me that 3 years is too long a time to treat depression and anxiety. (i would say that i am a “run-of-the-mill” depressed individual, if there is such a thing.)
Hi Butch,
I honestly think you can’t put a time limit on getting over depression. You can only keep trying. I see a therapist every week. It’s a long slow process. It takes commitment and to have a good match to a therapist.
I told my therapist I didn’t feel I was progressing, she told me she sees it and it may take a while before I do. My therapist and pdoc also work together. She is what I call my voice of reason.
I have just been dx with Bipolar. That’s something that never goes away. But it is something that can be controlled with the right meds and tools you learn from a therapist. Read my profile, you’ll see what I mean.
Don’t let anyone, even a friend tell you it’s taking to long, everyone is different and has different issues there working on.
You should be proud of yourself for trying to get what ever is bothering under control.
Feel free to email me anytime.
Take care and never give up!

I think I had a panic attack because I have been thinking/worrying about this constantly. I looked up my symptoms on WebMD but I just wanted to ask someone with expereience, what was the treatment/testing for you? Why do you get them? Thanks
I started having panic attacks almost 10 years ago. The Doc's gave me different meds to try to "fix" this problem. They sent me to a shrink and a counselor. They put me on Effexor- the worst thing I've ever allowed to be done to me. They were all just band-aids for the problem. Nothing ever fixed it. I Got the Lucinda Basset tapes for panic attacks- did tons of research and finally met a doctor who had a brain!!! She gave me a saliva test for adrenal fatigue. Turns out panic attacks are caused by certain deficiencies in the body such as low Epinephrine, high Cortisol, Doapamine, Serotonin. Tell your doctor to order this test for you. It is the only real way to find out what's actually wrong so that they can fix it. I swear I think doctors must be taking kick backs from the drug companies so they just keep us medicated instead of trying to fix the real problem and help us.
Test info:
"Neuro Adrenal 1 Profile" test from Neuro Science, Inc. 373 280th street, Osceola, WI 54020 Phone: 1-888-342-7272 www.neuroadrenalinc.com
The test consists of 3 small tubes for saliva collection and opne small vial for urine. You take the test from home and then mail back to the lab with the pre-paid postage. They send the results to your doctor, who then should give you a copy. Good luck!! And help spread the word.
I started having chest pains about 1 1/2 years ago. after an EKG, echocardiagram and wearing a 24 hour heart monitor, everything was normal and they said its anxiety. 1 1/2 later I still have chest pains. Is there any reason to get a stress test? No, I havent really "fixed" my anxiety-I went on meds but went into a depression along with my anxiety so I stopped taking them. I have delt with it in some ways and do not feel as anxious or nervous but still somewhat. Im 33 and 30 lbs overweight. out of shape and I know its stupid but Im scared if I excersice I will have a heart attack. what to do…
if all the pathological and ECG reports are normal then nothing to worry about..
yes ,your doctor is right the pain of chest is only from your anxiety, anxiety can cause pain in any conner of your body from head to feet (not only chest) and even all along the whole body
the symptoms you have mentioned reveal that you are probably suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder associated with secondary mild depression
it can be treated with proper medicines and also with some psychotherapies, consultancy, group theraphy,meditations.etc.
Never stop your prescribed medicines,if you feel some side-effects inform it to your doctor
You need to consult a psychairtist /psychotherapies for reducing your anxiety and panic you developed in your mind of something like "suffering from heart diseases" or "heart attacks"..etc. thru medicines as well as consultancies, group therapies and meditation if necessary.
how do i handle social anxiety disorder with panic attacks? how are you supposed to handle any social situation with this disorder?
The main way to combat social anxiety disorder, as with most, if not all, of the anxiety disorders is utilising Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) (and in combination with meds is usually a good idea at first too).
Exposure therapy basically works like this.. You think of a list of situations which make you anxious.. You rate them in terms of how anxious they make you feel from best - worst.. and then you work on them ,starting at the least anxiety provoking, you start to do those things- this may be asking a stranger for the time, right up to asking someone if they'd like to go to a movie with you..etc.. And basically you complete these tasks, you feel the anxiety and you also realise that the anxiety fades with time, until you are desensitised.
Utilise this in combination with CBT - that is looking at you rthoughts - why do you feel anxious abt social situations?
Social situation –> thought —> Response (anxiety)
So if you can alter the thought to a more functional thought, you can also alter the response, so it is no longer anxiety.
i.e. I see a good looking guy -> he will think I am stupid if i tlak to him –> anxiety and avoidance..
v.s.
I see him –> what have i got to lose talking to him, who cares what he thinks, he's not worth it if he judges so fast –> calm enough to talk to him…
That is in it's most simplistic terms.. If your Social Anxiety is really a huge issue and impacting on your life then consider seeing a Psychologist to work on it - and you'll probably utilise the techniques above.
Good luck!!
Curious? I am on Effexor and just feel like the anxiety is not subsiding. My Dr and I talked today and she said to give it a little more time and that we would add something else later on. I want to be educated on my options. Any suggestions on additions?
I am also going to see a psych. to just talk things out…
Please only serious answer. Thanks in advance!
There is a great web site at:
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/anxiety_medication_drugs_treatment.htm
It discusses all the pros and cons of the various classes of meds used for anxiety. I won't make a recommendation because my cocktail is set up for depression, DID and anxiety/PTSD and includes five different meds including atypical antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, and an atypical antipsychotic. In addition, what works for one person may not work for someone else.
I do agree with the poster who suggested that your doctor who prescribes the meds should probably be a psychiatrist — not a primary care doc — once they get into mixing more than a couple meds — and some primary care docs don't even like to mix two meds. Also, be aware it does take time for meds to work — they have to build up to therapeutic levels within your body before they do anything — unlike antibiotics which we are all used to taking for a couple days and feeling better.
Hope the web site gives you the info you need to be educated when you talk to your doctor.

Early diagnostic label either psychotic depression/anxiety or more likely schizo-affective disorder. I have been on Stelazine 5mg/day for 14 years, and recently on Seruquel 350mg/day to replace Stelazine. I also have been on a daily anti-depressive for 14 years currently Cipramil/Cipram. Initial psychosis disappeared weeks after treatment began and has never reappeared. Clinical depression has disappeared and anxiety with psychological features e.g. significant phobia - penis envy/fear & general anxiety is now normal . Clinical severity and symptoms have disappeared and any residual effects are gone. I am now clear thinking and feeling, and am no longer obsessive. I now consider myself healthy yet attempts to come off my meds cold turkey as recent as March 2006 did not last long term - 10 days at the most. Throughout the summer 2006 I gradually tapered myself down to taking 'crumbs' of all the different meds. But when teaching began, Ist week in September I panicked and resumed in full
Never stop taking drugs for mental illness cold turkey.
I don't believe that any schizophrenia type disorders ever really go away. They can be suppressed and controlled with medication, as you know, but will most likely be back if you go off the meds. You could start taking a smaller dose of medication for this and see how you handle it, but never ever ever stop taking an anti-psychotic cold turkey.
To go off the meds for depression/anxiety, you'll need to taper down. Your doctor will tell you how you can do this best.
The smartest, safest thing you can do is talk to your doctor so that he/she can prescribe a lower dosage of the anti-psychotic and put you on a plan for going off the anti-depressant.
I have chest pain and it also I feel pain in the back also. My left arm is going numb a little and I’m panicking. Any advice PLEASE?
what your having is anxienty attacks ,I used to have them all the time until I started taking effexor which is an anti anxiety and anti depression med. but works well to control anxiety /panic attacks and I also take xanax when i fell an attack coming on .If you talk to your dr. he might start you off with a low dose .25mg yes point 25 mg a rather small dose but it will definiely help.I figured out it was sugar free product that would cause my attacks so it maybe something like that for you .But good luck and if your prescriped the meds which you may be hesitate about it’s better then living with this problem Good Luck
