It seems like Social Anxiety is a fairly new disorder. What has it made it so prominent in the past couple decades?
One viewpoint is that it hasn't increased. People are just more in touch with their emotions nowadays–which has caused more awareness of it and that awareness can actually enhance the symptoms of SA.
I don't think thats completely true. I agree that people are more in touch with their emotions, but I'd still say there is an increase caused by something else.
Does anybody have any thoughts as to why you think SA has increased in the past years?
I appreciate it.
Research identified it as an issue and created criterion by which it can be identified. Treatment plans follow identification - medication and therapy.
It's the same with children and bipolar disorder or children with ADD/ADHD. Surely they existed prior to the diagnosable disorder.
Much of this is due to medical insurance billing. They need a name/diagnosis to bill.

If you took medication with it or not would be helpful : ) my ocd is not really phobic as more irrational thinking.
i have a mild generalized anxiety disorder with OCD. I am on meds and am supposed to perform stress-relieving techniques everyday and both these things help. My phychiatrist says that my case is mild enough that i only need to see him once a year to make to make sure things are still ok. Him and I had lots of sessions at first tho, so that he could figure out what was wrong with me. He also gave me a peice of paper with a CBT cenario on it. For example, if ____happens then what willl be the worst that will happen? is this rational etc. and I fill in the blank. Actually it really helps me and now i dont even need the paper anymore, i threw it out cause i can ask myself those questions in my head so yeah it helped.

or u need to keep taking them till your last days if u want to keep good results?
were u or someone u know taking such pills and it removed anxiety problems for good, and u stopped taking them long ago and u r cured for good?
You can't "cure" any mental illness. Facing one, like anxiety, will be a lifelong battle. There's no silver bullet that will make it all go away, as nice as that would be.
Talk to your health care provider about options, your illness, and side effects. Together, and with some trial and error, you can find the right prescription for you (if indeed one is needed at all).
Please make sure, however, that a medication, and not a simpler solution, is what is needed. Sometimes talk therapy, meditation, or other treatments can be equally effective without having to resort to drugs.
Remember — the best you can hope for is to reduce your anxiety problem to a manageable level. If you go into this fight with realistic expectations, the outcome will be more favorable for you.

There is no cure for mental disorders. All you can do is take medication or see a therapist to lesson or control the symptoms.

Alright, I have a feeling that I had an anxiety attack 2 weeks ago.
I had this dizzy feeling, an my heart started to beat fast.
I was with my mom, Im 12.
I lied down on the bed, and drank water and felt better after 6-7 minutes
Well, the doctor didn’t know what I was having since it was only the first day, I am overweight, I weighed 68 kilos, and I am 5foot.
Though the day after I started losing weight, eating healthy.
I had another anxiety attack a few days after.
The 2 weeks are up, I haven’t had an anxiety attack in a while.
Though, I still have shortness of breath, and chest pain, and abit of numbness. I used to weigh 68, now I weigh 65.
If I continue losing weight, stayin healthy, and calm the heck down will thes ephysical symptoms go away? are there any natural treatments?
or do I need medical treatment?
People with experience said they didn’t need it, and used natural remedies to heal it.
Though I don’t know those natural remedies.
help ?
Ok these are some tips that work for me:
Keep yourself occupied during an attack. For me sometime playing a video game or typing online or drawing … Something that takes your mind off of the physical symptoms and keeping your hands busy.
Sometimes a nice warm bath can help too. I don't reccomend the shower as much because for me I get too dizzy.
Oh and try to relax and say away from stress if possible.
Practicing deep breathing through out the day can help.
I've found caffeine cause me a lot of anxiety so I cut out a lot.
Try to figure out around when you are getting anxious so you can try to pin point what it is and figure out a way to deal with that specifically.
Meditation and yoga and exercise.
I myself find Praying works.
I do suggest seeing a dr again for further tests to make sure it is anxiety and if need be medication.
I am on a couple thing's for anxiety myself but I have pretty severe anxiety.
Good luck.
