I am a psychologist specializing in the treatment of anxiety disorders. I would like to use driving games in the treatment of driving anxious patients. To do that well, I would like a game with free driving through different environments (city, highway, mountain, etc.), and ability to predetermine different conditions: lighting and weather conditions and traffic density. Do you know any game that might fulfill all or some of these requirements?
Most all of the games on the market today have something of these types of programming. (Sony, X-box, Nintendo, etc) The best thing for you to do is to go into a store that sells these different game systems and just look at the discriptions of the different games and select one that you think is appropriate. Your idea sounds great. I hope it works for your patients.

I know someone that is being treated for panic attacks associated w/ an anxiety disorder.
Currently, they have been taking Zolfot for about 8 years. However, I have known this person for about 3 years. I have found that over the past 3 years, this person has changed significantly.
All of the issue they are having, happen to be side effects of Zolfot. This includes weight gain, drowsiness, a general lack of energy and interest and (from what I've heard) a lack of sexual desire.
I suggested this person stop taking the medication, but they are scared the panic attacks might start again.
I don't blame them. However, is there anyway that a person can be treated w/ a different medication.
Also, is there anyway a person can receive treatment for anxiety disorders and panic attacks through working w/ a therapist?
Hi, sorry to hear your friend is getting panic attacks. If he/she want to eliminate panic attacks tell them to take the following steps.
1.Breathe properly. If you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.
2. Try Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks and anxiety. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can take a course for free online at: livinglifetothefull.com It has been funded by NHS Scotland and has had great results thus far.
3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. This site has instructions on how to do it without the tapes (and other useful info): http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resource…
Best of luck to you both.

From wikipedia, it would seem so:
CBT treatments have received empirical support for efficient treatment of a variety of clinical and non-clinical problems, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse disorders, and psychotic disorders. It is often brief and time-limited. It is used in individual therapy as well as group settings, and the techniques are also commonly adapted for self-help applications.
You should definitely consult your physician or doctor before embarking on any programs, they would know what to do.

Lately, I have been experiencing panic attacks everyday. They last from 30 mins - 2 hrs. I feel extremely light headed, tingly in my fingers & toes while getting a cold sweat, I immediately feel like something’s seriously wrong with me, that I’m beginning to go insane, or that I’m about to die. I also feel like everything’s unreal, or almost like I’m in an acoma and that everything is presently a dream. It feels like a bad high. I’m afraid to leave the house alone fearing that I may have a panic attack while I’m out. I’m afraid to go to work or school. I don’t exercise anymore cause I feel extremely tired everyday and I’m scared I might faint while exercising. I’ve gone to the emergancy because my doctor perscribed me anti-depressants that reacted really badly with my body. Once I was there, the doctor said that my blood & heart were normal and that I had panic/anxiety disorders. Again I was perscribed medication in order to try and help calm my anxiety/panic attacks. However, I’m paranoid that if I do take this medication I will once again go through what I did w/ the anti-depressants. I have read that many feel medication for panic disorders don’t completely help & that some people have experienced these symptoms for up to 10 yrs. I’m really scared that I might go through that. I’ve read adds on the net for books & CDs that help cure panic attacks w/o the need of medication. My question is, has anyone ever tried this method instead of using perscribed medication and which book/CD has worked the best for you? Thanks.
The impurities and imperfections in our body and mind is the main cause for such anxiety. Anxiety and mental disorder does not come all of a sudden. It is a chain reaction. It is built over a period of time by us.
The remedy for this is a total change in life style. Plus there should be a transformation of mind set. Habits (both physical and mental), and moral behavior should change. Should have great vision. Should channelize all our time, energy and resources towards some higher pursuits. We should accumulate lot of good-will. Keep away from ill-will.
Healthy habits and traits will come only when our thinking is pure and clean. Thinking should be simple and easy. We should have positive thoughts only. Too much of desire for sense objects should be controlled. Because desire results in attachment. If the desire is not fulfilled, we get irritation or frustration, thus leading to anger and infatuation. From infatuation, we get confusion of memory. Confusion of memory will take you to loss of reason. Thus anxiety comes over a period of time. It is an unnecessary load on us, which we gradually accumulate because of our indiscipline, disorganized way of living, unsystematic approach, etc.

What is the proper treatment for?
if your anxiety and panic attacks are so bad that you dont wanna go out anywhere and stay inside everyday? , plus..youve had an inner rage and anger problems for over 10 years and you also stat inside everyday because your afraid youll lose it or have an aggressive or anger outburst…i had them mainly in the past and they put me obviously in dangerous situations. and although i can control them a heell of alot better, i stay inside because of the fear of losing control of my anger, i also get the strange sensation of having the feeling of feeling detached from things that go on around me when i go out, which i dont like…..what is the proper treatment for all this????.Also what are all these symptoms symptomatic of.what disorder??……………at the moment im pursuing a second opinion because i was unhappy with the last psychiatric assessment which it was said i have a personality disorder
My first thought, I must admit, was Borderline Personality Disorder. It was the problem with controlling anger that made me go there. Of course, it is only one symptom out of several that need to be present for that to be an accurate diagnosis.
I have bpd, but also bipolar (heavy on the depression), adhd, anxiety disorders. Anyway, I have problems with rage and controlling angry outbursts…as well as other problems regulating emotions. I also have social anxiety and feel the way you describe when going out…detached. And extremely uncomfortable in my own skin. A few years ago, I realized that when I go places (like the mall, for instance) my senses sort of dull/distort. Things seem darker/dimmer than they actually are. Sounds are muffled. And I become extremely irritable. Just having that awareness of what I was experiencing has helped me, to some degree, to deal with it. It was suggested that I try some grounding techniques when I feel that way, the main one being to just feel my feet in my shoes on the floor. I swear it helps. I don't know which particular disorders causes this disassociation for me and really, the label doesn't matter. The most important thing is to address the individual symptoms you are having.
It is not uncommon for mood disorders, personality disorders, and/or anxiety disorders to co-exist. It is impossible for anyone on here to diagnose you. Even if there were people qualified to do that on here, you would need to give much, much more detailed information.
And for the record, in general, doctors are not quick to dx symptoms as a personality disorder. They certainly are not over-diagnosed and NO, not almost everyone has one. That's complete nonsense.
how do i handle social anxiety disorder with panic attacks? how are you supposed to handle any social situation with this disorder?
The main way to combat social anxiety disorder, as with most, if not all, of the anxiety disorders is utilising Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) (and in combination with meds is usually a good idea at first too).
Exposure therapy basically works like this.. You think of a list of situations which make you anxious.. You rate them in terms of how anxious they make you feel from best - worst.. and then you work on them ,starting at the least anxiety provoking, you start to do those things- this may be asking a stranger for the time, right up to asking someone if they'd like to go to a movie with you..etc.. And basically you complete these tasks, you feel the anxiety and you also realise that the anxiety fades with time, until you are desensitised.
Utilise this in combination with CBT - that is looking at you rthoughts - why do you feel anxious abt social situations?
Social situation –> thought —> Response (anxiety)
So if you can alter the thought to a more functional thought, you can also alter the response, so it is no longer anxiety.
i.e. I see a good looking guy -> he will think I am stupid if i tlak to him –> anxiety and avoidance..
v.s.
I see him –> what have i got to lose talking to him, who cares what he thinks, he's not worth it if he judges so fast –> calm enough to talk to him…
That is in it's most simplistic terms.. If your Social Anxiety is really a huge issue and impacting on your life then consider seeing a Psychologist to work on it - and you'll probably utilise the techniques above.
Good luck!!
I just bought some crystal light green tea and have been drinking tons of it. All the sudden my anxiety has returned?? Has anyone else experienced this?
I am not sure about birth control, but drinking too much green tea can cause anxiety because of its caffeine content.
Below is an extract from the first link:
Caffeine intolerance is the most common cause of green tea side effects.
Green tea contains about half the amount of caffeine found in coffee, so moderate consumption of green tea is unlikely to cause problems for the majority of people.
For those who are sensitive to caffeine, here are symptoms to watch out for:
* restlessness
* irritability
Those with psychological disorders, especially anxiety or panic disorders, should drink green tea cautiously.
Those with overactive thyroid, or hyperthyroidism, should also exercise caution.
For some guidance on how much to drink, read the second link.
Drink moderately (3 to 6 cups) and see if the problem go away.
I hope it heps.
