How do you get through your panic attacks? What Natural Treatments do you Use?

I have gotten panic attacks all my life, and I want to help myself through them. What do you do to calm yourself down during a panic attack? I mean Natural Cures??

I swear I sometimes have panic attacks but try getting a medical marijuana card and try some weed. It sounds crazy but I swear it will help alot, and if you risk your lungs just buy edibles and youll have a nice body high. It is a very good soltuion and ask your docter for a medical card or a prescription for some medicine to stop your panic attacks. Go over your research and make the decision. Hope this helped. Peace

I used to have bad panic attacks–and the way I overcame them was through my spiritual faith–and by viewing things rationally…I prayed to God, and came to the realization that no matter what anxiety came over me…I AM alright!!

When you view things from a logical perspective–you can lose the anticipatory fear that creates panic in the first place. The next time you get a panic attack, consciously think to yourself: "this is only a feeling…Feelings are not facts…they do pass!" And if you think about (in the midst of the panic) what really could happen to you–you can find peace in the fact that you are okay, you’re not going to die, it’s just a feeling…

Also, when I was about 22 years old, I met up with a psychologist that told me the following:
"Panic attacks have the same physical elements as the excitement that LOVE creates…" He told me that the only difference is that panic attacks are negative, and love is positive…So when the next time I panicked I would think about love, and visualize someone that I was in love with (at that time), and it can distract you from your panic, and help you mentally switch to the positive…REMEMBER, a lot of overcoming panic attacks is just: mind over matter!

A good book I bought about seven years ago, that you could rent at the library or buy is: "The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook" by Edmund J. Bourne, Ph.D.

Whatever you do…DON’T do what "Alex" said…Marijuana triggers panic attacks in a LOT of people…Especially in people that are vulnerable to getting panic attacks.

Xanax is the only thing I’ve found that works. I’ve used meditation and other deep breathing techniques but the only thing that really knocks it and you out is Xanax. Sorry.

marijuana really does help. i remember several instances when i was having panic attacks. after my first puff of herb, i was laughing at myself for having a panic attack over whatever. it really put it into perspective and made it seem trivial.

if you don’t wanna get into smoking pot, as it does sap ambition, try other herbal sedatives.

valerian root is known as nature’s valium.

bacopa is similar to lorazapam except it also helps with short term memory!

don’t take prescription pills!

I use both conventional treatment and natural.

I take propranolol (a beta blocker) which is prescribed by the doctor. It’s safe and non addictive and works very well.

I also take 5htp, passiflora and have cut all caffeine out of my drinks too.

If your panic attacks are severe then I’d recommend the propranolol - ask your doctor for some 10mg tablets which is a low dose. Nothing natural is going to act as effectively as these.

You can also ask to be referred for cognitive behavioural therapy as well.
