What physical symptoms of anxiety do you have?
ByI have had severe anxiety for years and just now learned that there are physical symptoms and the body does some crazy and debilitating things under stress bc I realize some physical things I sufferfeo might be from stress I am finally going to seek help but was wondering how others suffer physically…?
Whenever I suffer from anxiety the following physical manifestations happen:
- Increased heart rate
- Flushing
- Stomach pain / bloating
- Dizziness
- Tiredness
- Increased perspiration
These symptoms are present for a variety of reasons. When you are stressed your body thinks it is in danger (like, for example, a lion is chasing you and wants to kill you). In response, your body increases the levels of certain neurotransmitters (such as norepinephrine and serotonin) and hormones (such as cortisol). Norepinephrine raises the heart rate and blood pressure, and serotonin slows down digestion (since the last thing your body needs to worry about when it is in danger is digestion). The effects of these neurotransmitters cause some of the physical manifestations I mentioned above, and it is all due to mental stress and the way your sympathetic nervous system deals with it. Your parasympathetic nervous system will kick in eventually and calm the body down, slowing heart rate and blood pressure and putting digestion back in sync.
