Cold, Cough, Chest Pain, Anxiety?
ByI have had a cough for a couple of days now. Additionally, I feel cold like I have a fever but my thermometer reads 97.0 degrees F. I have chest pain but it isn’t bad. Maybe a 1 or 2 on the pain scale, just like a dull ache. It’s not all over the place either, I can point to exactly where it hurts.
I’m freaking out, my heart rate is up and I have a history of anxiety problems. I’m standing up to write this because I’m scared and my neck is killing me.
I also haven’t slept in 26 hours, I’ve been trying to quit smoking (down to 5-7 a day after being a pack a day smoker for years) and my girlfriend has been kind of ill.
Is this just an anxiety attack or should I be worried?
I also had two pieces of garlic toast at about 10:30am (it’s 4pm now) with a can of mt dew. Before that I had a small snack about 3am and before that nothing until about 5pm yesterday.
Chest pain is about a quarter of an inch below my left collarbone. Earlier it was right in the middle of my chest. Also, it goes away when I get up and walk around (which is what I do when I’m anxious) but when I calm down and sit down, it aches again and starts the anxiety right back up.
Thanks for your response Colt45. I also suffer from Google Search Anxiety. Where I type symptoms into a search engine and it comes up "heart attacks, congestive heart failure, anemia, blah blah blah deadly diseases".
I am going to see a doctor about it, but I have to wait a week for health insurance to come in. I probably should’ve waited til after the doctor’s visit to cut way back on my smoking.
I think I just needed to hear someone tell me that I’m not dying lol. Thanks!
What you are experiencing is anxiety. The chest pain is most likely from smoking but your anxiety is making it out to be something worse. Anxiety can make you feel ill (like you have a fever). Calm down and get some sleep. If you are really concerned see a doctor, but like you said you have an anxiety problem so that is most likely the case. Anxiety can manifest itself in many ways.
Edit: Try focusing on something else. I know "calming down" is easier said than done. Try doing something that requires a lot of focus- hard math problems, riddles, video games you enjoy, go for a walk, have sex, do something to take your mind off of how you are feeling, and you will realize that you are calming down and you aren’t focused on your anxiety.
