Social Anxiety #1: Introduction
By admin
Hey everyone, my name is Mark. I’m 27 years old, from the UK and I have social phobia otherwise known as Social Anxiety Disorder. SAD is a fear of social situations and centres around the paranoid belief that people are being judgemental or overly critical of us. This makes the sufferer hermit like and stops them from living a normal happy lifestyle because they are constantly afraid that their actions may in some way embarrass them or cause them severe humiliation.

Hey thanks! I know what you mean. It’s hard letting people know that you’re shy. But even harder trying to keep it a secret I find.

YES!! That is …
YES!! That is exactly it! It’s so difficult for me to relax my vocal chords, because if I do, my voice goes into a high pitch…a bit like a boy who’s just started puberty, lol! So I have to really force my voice through that voice box and it gets so tiring on my throat.

It seems we share a couple of the same symptoms. While talking to people my voice is tense. If I’ve been talking for a while (which is rare) my vocal cords gets sore from the tension. It affects the sound of my voice which I hate, I have to make a conscious effort to modulate my voice so it doesn’t sound wierd. Also, my upper lip becomes stiff when I’m nervous and speaking to someone. I thought those things were unique to me, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one. Keep the vids coming!

Hi! I used to watch …
Hi! I used to watch your videos before, i’m glad you’re posting new ones cause you really helped me understand that there are other people out there that look so perfect on the outside but still have the same disorder that I have.
I wish that I could be as brave os you and post videos but I live in Sweden and it’s such a small country that I’m afraid that people would recognize me. I know it’s stupid but i’m afraid that people will find out my secret, that I have SA.
Anywho, welcome back!

Well, things are slightly better. I think it was going to college that really gave me the boost in confidence that I needed. My self esteem has been pretty low since I quit my job years ago.

Well look at you… …
Well look at you…welcome back. You know, as soon as I started feeling uncomfortable when talking to someone…I put the emphasis back onto them….like “and what about you? how have you been?” people like to know you’re interested in them and it gives you a minute to readjust with them. Here’s to you Mark, look forward to seeing more vids if you feel like continuing.

It took me a long …
It took me a long time to reduce my blushing. I’m not even sure how I did it. I think maybe it was a result of an increase in confidence as I got older. I’m sure the same will happen for you, just dont put a time limit on it. Become comfortable with blushing in front of people and sure enough you wont blush so regularly.

Yeah I think a lot …
Yeah I think a lot of my underlying problems are to do with my appearance. I have low self esteem so I think I stand out when I’m out and about. I feel like I need to dress a certain way to fit in sometimes. But thats just one of many problems fueling the SA.

Oh I hate getting out of the car. When I’m inside it’s like a little portable safety zone.
