My Moment of Status Anxiety
By
How strange it is that the trivial things can make one feel so inadequate? Thankfully, we occasional get moments of equally trivial comeuppance to compensate. The heart has reasons that reason knows not of.

I loved the story, …
I loved the story, you’re really coming into your own. I hope you get that classroom someday.

Yeah! The problem …
Yeah! The problem of microeconomic theory is the assumption that the utility of one individuals set of goods is independent from the set of goods of a nother individual.
Obiviously not the case. But rationality can be assumed sometimes.

Now you just have …
Now you just have to take that same emotional willingness to be irrational and feel good, and apply it to god, then you will know that Jesus loves you and doesn’t want you to go to for being a philosopher
Think how much personal interaction he can have in a classroom that size. It is more prestigious to show off, but I bet your students can actually talk back to you.

I like USI, but I …
I like USI, but I don’t think I have a debt of loyalty to it. But really it would depend. I’d have to know what they expect of me. The Ivy League can be very high pressure and I’m not so sure I’d want that. But it would be an incredible ego boost, and no doubt a better job in many respects. So I couldn’t say, I’d have to see the details. But I certainly wouldn’t sneeze at the offer.

that’s a very …
that’s a very modest answer…..if you got the offer to teach at Harvard would you?
Or will you remain loyal to USI?

The Fragile was …
The Fragile was great, but personally I can listen to both year zero and year zero remixed endlessly without getting tired of it. Trent Reznor is an amazing artist. Back on topic I agree with you about everyone having moments where they just can’t help but feel inadequate in some way. You just have to realize when you’re having those moments and think rationally.

Funny stuff. Been there. At any rate, I appreciate you putting stuff into perspective at the end there so as to not inflate yourself too much.
Hey…. what about responding to my response to your text comment on my foreknowledge page? Wondering if you’re going to get back to me.

And decided to post the story on youtube and get more emotionally aroused, huh?
Good job by the way! You will get your well-designed class some day.

Fair enough, you used the best track on the album anyway. Never listened to the slip, I could tell they were out of material on with teeth.

Maslows hierarchy rearing its ugly head.

There are certainly …
There are certainly some who have treated it like theater, but if anything I’d say it’s more like ritual. You have to jump through these hoops in this way and you get promoted, published and prestige. It’s a monkey-fuck, but it’s the life I have chosen.

I actually rather liked With Teeth. Not as good as The Fragile, but better than The Slip.

Witha Teetha. lol that was such a bad album. I would feel like a complete teaching in a classroom like that.

I have always suspected that professional philosophy was much like WWF wrestling. Total theatre.
What you need is a flashier gimmick and costume than your nemesis.
Learn to sew, get some spandex and buy yourself a Bedazzler.
Change your name to “Raging Sisyphus” and Bob’s your uncle.

So you have a small classroom….so you nailed him……but I’m disappointed. I was waiting with a tremendous feeling of anticipation that you were going to give us some fantastic words of wisdom that would prove to us that you deserved a bigger classroom. But nothing!
I watched you for 4.56 without a grande finale, a big payoff, the proof that you deserved a bigger classroom.
Ebal the Atheist
PS I’m still subbed so you have an opportunity to show you are worthy of the BIG room.

Thank you for saying so.

Yeah, I’ve heard …
Yeah, I’ve heard some horror stories about Harvard, too. I realize there are major downsides and the grass is always greener yada-yada-yada, which is why 98% of the time I’m content. But despite this knowledge those little voices some times creep up on you.

The question had to …
The question had to do with the metaphysical status of property and services, how such things can be commoditized and how currency has the capacity to hold value of such commodities. Like I said, it sounds strange out of context, but it did go right to the heart of a large portion of his argument.

Some of the best philosophers have taught in outhouses (or the near equivalent thereof.)
