When someone has anxiety, is it for life when it starts during childhood?
By adminIn Dec. 2009, my 9 yr old daughter developed anxiety (phobia of vomiting in public). Because of this, she has become withdrawn. She used to be such a social butterfly and now it’s the opposite. Can someone change like this in 2 months? Will she find her true self again? We’re seeing a psychologist but we’re not seeing many results yet. This anxiety is interfering with our daily life. Help!
I’ve had anxiety since I was 6…I’m 42 now. It all depends on if you get some help for your child. In my childhood days, it was frowned upon to get any kind of mental health care. My son started suffering from social anxiety, I took him straight away to a doctor. He’s being treated and he’s fine now. I really believe in treatment for it. It’s hard to live a nice life if your constantly worried and anxious.
btw,,,my son sees a psychiatrist once a month and is on anti anxiety meds..they don’t make him drugged out and sleepy at all. Just more relaxed in stressful situations and able to think things through.
My youngest son started with the anxiety as well, but his was different. His pet mouse died and he didn’t say much about it. then he started have chest pains a few months later and his heart was pounding. I took him to the emergency room. The EKG was normal. At a follow up they said it was anxiety making his heart pound and growing pains making his chest hurt. So we went to the pet store and he picked out a new mouse. No more chest pain, no more thumping hard heart.
different ways to treat anxiety…you’re sure to find one that works.
good luck and I hope your daughter feels well soon.

OH MY GOD I ALMOST DROPPED DEAD. I have had a fear of vomiting in public since I was 6 years old Im now 38. I was housebound with agoraphobia for 7 years aged 13-20.
It never goes away, it just gets easier over time. Im pretty good now I have the panic once in a while, but still avoid confined spaces. I must say you need to take you daughter to a psychiatrist not a psychologist, she needs medication before she ends up housebound. A psychologist is not trained for this, this is mental illness, its not a phase its a serious illness. So get her to a doctor now before she cannot leave the house at all, just like me at one point.
