My dog has separation anxiety help?

By admin

HELP! I just got him yesterday and i already cant sleep or eat without him braking and wining. i looked it up and he has separation anxiety. We don’t have a cage so that’s out. If you people have any advise please tell me!!!! I need some help because my dad is going to take him back if he doesn’t stop. I don’t really mind him taking the dog away but i really want to keep him.

Your dog does not have separation anxiety. He’s new to your home so he is bound to be nervous. If he’s a puppy then he misses his litter mates and needs sometime to adjust and if he’s an older dog he’s probably just a little scared and needs time to adjust to a new home. If he is a puppy, you really should crate him. It helps the dog adjust to his new environment because it’s a place where he can go that’s his. Dog’s like to have their own little "caves" so the crate would be very beneficial. Dogs whine and bark, if you can’t cope with that than don’t have a dog. He will settle down eventually. He is just stressed.

That is not separation anxiety. He’s in a new home with a new family and he hasn’t settled in yet. Learn more about what it takes to care for a dog and give him time to settle in. If you don’t have one, get a crate.

If you’re thinking about getting rid of a dog after one day you probably shouldn’t have one.

That isn’t separation anxiety, first off. He is just not used to his new surroundings. If possible get a box and let him sleep in a box by your bed. After a few days it should help.

It takes about a week before a dog understands where he is and starts to understand what is expected. You didn’t say how old he is, but a young pup takes months to understand all that is expected. If he is an older dog or a rescue, he will learn faster but still will take about a week to a month to feel comfortable. If you spend a lot of time with him, playing and wearing him out, he will be able to sleep more. Join Rescue Resource Collective to discuss issues about dogs. http://rescuecollective.com

Aduial’s right. You shouldn’t have a dog of you can’t keep him for more than a day. What do you mean "I don’t really mind him taking the dog away "? You should wait at least a few weeks for him to settle down before you determine whether or not hes right for you. Seperation anxiety is where the dog is so attatched to you he can’t bare to be alone. This dog hardly even knows you, it could take a couple years before he gets there, not hours. A hamster is probably more for you if you can’t keep a dog longer than a day. Though you may say its not your fault, the dog is your responsiblity too as much as it is your dad’s.
