Help with Anxiety…suggestions?

By admin

For the past week I’ve had about three anxiety attacks. I dont know what the problem is and i dont know why i feel this way. I just do. I’ve been trying to find different ways to relax and calm myself but no matter what i do i still end up feeling depressed or anxious. my question is, do i need to see a psychologist or is there anything i can do from the comfort of my home to try and make the anxiety less? I don’t want to take anti depressants or any medication

I’ve had anxiety issues ever since my parents split when I was 8.
I mean when I get nervous, it’s full on anxiety. Sweaty, heart racing, puking, shaking… all that fun stuff ;) Recently I was able to actually go to an event without freaking out beforehand, here are some things that have helped me.

Distract yourself from the cause of your anxiety attacks. If you have a big meeting tomorrow that you’re nervous about, getting nervous is a waste of time. Keep busy on the computer, reading, watching TV, doing some housework and listening to music… whatever keeps your mind off the stressor.

This one took me a couple years to get down, but visualize yourself somewhere else. Concentrate long and hard on that place and how relaxing it is. I like to think of myself in a bookstore with a tea from starbucks. That always relaxes me.

Take your index and middle finger and slowly rub from your elbow to your wrist, back and forth. This calms your body by releasing endorphins. I’m not sure if this is true, it’s just something I read online, but it does calm me.

If you’ve got the whole panting thing going on… get a paper bag and breathe into that like you see in the movies. Honestly it works. I like to do it in a small space like a closet, but then again I’m not the slightest bit claustrophobic.

Cut back on the caffeine. Coffee, tea, energy drinks etc. all have caffeine which makes you anxious.

Best of luck :)
