Does therapy for anxiety really work; if so, how?

of course, i would prefer answers from people who have actually experienced it…
almost everyone I ask suggest that i get over it myself… but how exactly is that done? I have tried telling my self not to worry, and this works sometimes, but most of the time I get nervous during unexpected situations, and wont be able to calm down unless i go away from them…

Therapy is nothing more than teaching you a set of techniques to use to overcome anxiety. Yes it works, but you only get out of it what you put into it. Drinking and taking prescription meds never works, in fact it will only make anxiety worse when you aren’t drinking or taking meds. Why not learn to overcome it by your own power.

Anxiety takes a lot of work to get over, and it does help to have someone from outside the situation help you to apply skills to improve your reactions to things. It takes time, exposure to things you’re afraid of, and working to figure out the source of the anxiety. Therapy definitely works better than just taking medicine or drinking and hoping it’ll go away. People who tell you to get over it either don’t understand or buy into the idea that admitting to fear is something to be ashamed of. It’s not. Everyone has fear. Some people avoid situations that are scary. Some people take xanax before events. Some people abuse alcohol or drugs to fight it. Some people become thrill junkies and fight fear by jumping out of planes. Knowing I have a family history of addiction, and seeing what that does to people, I decided to go with the hard road. Therapy has given me to confidence to go into situations that I would otherwise avoid and therefore lose the opportunity for experience. Yes it works. But you’ve got to do the work.

I used to have bad anxiety and what your experiencing at the current moment, so I know what you a going through. I looked everywhere for a solution and I find one that the first time I tried I started to cry as it worked so well and I keep doing it whenever I get a anxiety attack, which has reduced by 95% because of this technique. So I want to try to help a few people overcome this. I want you to try this and email me back of how it went.

Next time your in a situation that your having a anxiety or panic attack I want you to stay where you are and observe what you are feeling, then I want you to speak to your anxiety in your mind and tell it to give you the worst anxiety attack it can give you, now your anxiety will reach a new peak but keep telling it to give you more and more and more, while staying where you are (stay no matter what because its only sensations within the body) and then at the peak of the anxiety attack it will pop like a baloon and the symtons will come down, because asnxiety has a peak. The reason you get anxiety is because you are dreading having one in the near future (leaving that place where you are while getting worse is a wrong thing to do as you are leaving while its in a upward trend with the feeling), therefore have that lingering feeling. When you REALISE that anxiety has a peak then starts to come down, you know that nothing happened to you exept sensations within the body.

Then you tell your anxiety that when it wants it can come back and you will be here, meaning you are not fearing it. The reason it comes back is because of the fear of having one. This is a POWERFUL succesfull thing which has changed my life and has reduced my anxiety by 95%. Let me know how you went.
