Do I have social anxiety? should i ask my doctor for help?
By adminI’m a junior in high school and I just transferred to a private school and I have been having really bad anxiety. I cannot sit still, im always shaking and trembling, everytime someone says my name my heart races beyond belief and i turn all red and my eyes water. its so embarrassing which causes me even more anxiety. what should i do? i dont know what to do with myself anymore…
Ask your mom to take you to a therapist who deals with teen anxiety issues. If you haven’t had these issues for long, it’s likely that you can be helped in a relatively short time. Your general doctor/pediatrician can give you the name of a therapist.
Being a teen is tough, so many changes, so much going on. Transferring to a new school is a big deal at your age for many kids. Let a professional help you. They can give you ideas on what to do to help when you feel the anxiety coming on. Don’t suffer. If you had a headache, you’d take a tylenol, right? Lots of kids see therapists, even if they don’t talk about it.
Good luck to you!

Take a performing arts class such as Drama. I can identify w/the issue but if you force yourself to do this, I promise that it will help. Face your fears!

Do you feel anxious in most social situations [Talking to people, eating infront of others etc.]? These are also typical signs of social anxiety.
It can also be because you are in a new situation…we all get nervous and anxious sometimes, but it shouldn’t stop you from doing things in your day to day life. That’s when it becomes a problem.
If it is interfering with your everyday life, which it seems to be, I would recommend talking to your doctor. Perhaps CBT [cognitive behavioural therapy] would help…it’s a therapy used to help people deal with situations/people by provding different strategies for reducing anxiety or other psychological ailments.

Going to a doctor is a good idea. You can learn how to talk yourself out of being so nervous. It’s called Cognitive Therapy. It works really well.
