PLEASE HELP ME! ANXIETY!!!?

Posted by: admin | Comments (2)

I am terrified of needles and Im getting my Menengitis needle tommorow. or is it the 2nd dose of Hep B? Anyway i am terrified of needles, even though im going to use emla cream. Its more of an anxiety attack, really. PLEASE help me!!!! What can I do?? I am in 7th grade and everyone else just takes it. Help!

Aichmophobia! (Fear of Needles) It sometimes develops into a phobia, for which reason, see section 27, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris and examine the http://1-800-therapist.com/ and http://www.metanoia.org/choose/ websites, and use the locators in section 1, and phone book (but only if necessary) to find a suitable therapist, preferably a clinical psychologist.

The technique for reprogramming negative thoughts, on page N, in section 6, at ezy build, may be all that is required, otherwise, Systematic Desensitisation Therapy is known to be an effective treatment. For those unable to access professional treatment, you can try the following: Look at a picture of a hypodermic needle from far away. If you have none, go to http://www.google.com/ and type "photo; hypodermic syringe" in the searchbar, and press the "enter" key on your keyboard. Then approach it more closely. Finally, touch the picture. Then look at a real hypodermic syringe from a distance. Then approach it closer. Then touch it. Finally, pick it up, carefully. Then put it down, and move away.

These don’t all have to be done at once, and each step will teach you that, although it may not be pleasant, you weren’t actually harmed, and it will give you confidence to proceed with the next stage. It may well be the "conditioned response", which was instilled in you as a child, that is responsible for this fear. You saw the needle, then you experienced pain, (or possibly you saw someone else experience it) so now you associate pain with the sight of a needle, causing fear of it. Also see anxiety treatments, in section 6; page N first. Some people ask to lie down for their shots.

Others, ask where it will be administered, and to be told just before, so that the person about to have the needle can give that place a smack, (or you can jab yourself, lightly, with a plastic knitting needle, or similar, in several places immediately surrounding the target area) after which that tiny pinprick has considerably less effect: (the nerves which transmit pain have already started work, from over a considerable area, and the pain messages of the small additional amount of pain, from a very tiny area, tend to get flooded by the others) it may help to look away, and think of something pleasant, and promise yourself a nice reward, once it is over.

As someone who doesn’t like them, either; I consider that it is mostly the anticipation of pain, which is the problem, and once you take that away, by inflicting a little bit on yourself, the "shock value" is gone, in a similar way to how you can’t tickle yourself. How can I get over my social anxiety?

Posted by: admin | Comments (6)

When I am with someone, I can never think of anything to say. I sometimes worry that they are judging me or something. And for some reason, when my brother is with me and someone, I can strike up a conversation with ease. I have no idea why that is. Lately, my social anxiety has been worse. How do I overcome my social anxiety? How can I gain more self confidence?

The only way to get over it is to do it. That is be social. The more you do the more confident you can become, even if you start by pretending, after awhile you will start to build more confidence. The best way to get confidence is the pretend you have confidence. Fake it until you make it is the advice. Look, I know how you feel, as a teenager, I couldn’t even talk on the phone without fear that I would say the wrong thing and people would think terrible things. I couldn’t walk into a strange place by myself either. I just kept ending up in situations with my job that required me to go get answers, to go places, to talk to people and well, honestly, that helped. I needed to get answers and results and that was my motivation.

So, my advice to you is when you start to feel self-conscious, turn that part of your brain off and start to pretend you are somebody who has confidence. What might help is something actors do - they identify a character and character traits that they would like to have and they pretend to be that character. So, look for someone you can emulate - a character on tv or in film, someone who has the characteristics you would like, and then pretend to be them. Mine was from the old tv show "Soap" and it was the character Benson - he was cool, confident, and told everybody off. He was my hero, and though I didn’t get the telling off right, I got the confidence enough to stand behind the behavior and got more confident. You need to know that everybody is afraid of something, and especially being around other people - everyone is nervous to some extent. The difference is that they found a way to pretend that they weren’t nervous and they started role-playing and that’s how the make it through.

For someone who has social anxiety disorder, can you tell me what changes the drug had on you? Did you feel indifferent to and relaxed around your social surroundings, when interacting with people?
Did you feel more confident to approach people and able to properly talk to them in public social settings where you wouldn’t normally otherwise?

thanks!

I have been there done that social anxiety sucks all medication does is make you feel numb as if you are drunk prescription alcohol in a pill. I know the feeling of turning red in the face and freak out just talking to someone for no reason at all it sucks I won’t lie and only those that have been though it understand.

I will say you best option is to find a better ways to deal with you social anxiety all medication does is numb you and turn you into a different person and some of the medication can become very addictive such as xanax, valium, and any class of benzos that the doctors would love to give you.

In all honesty I beg you not to take medication for social anxiety it can be overcome without the use of drugs. I have been down that road and it’s not pretty trust me, If you think I wrong watch a show on A&E Intervention half the drug addicts are hooked on pills their doctors gave them.

In the end working with yourself and a total medication free program will be a great benefit to you in the end, you will remain your self and learn how to deal with your anxiety without the use of medication. Check out this site it has worked great for me and I have been on every medication you can think of only to find that you can solve the whole problem your self it’s all in you head as they say. Hope this helps and just so you know I totally understand what you are going through, it will get better.

Can Pregnancy help anxiety disorders?

Posted by: admin | Comments (2)

have been diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and have been on meds. (lexapro) for a few years now. The meds. seemed to be helping me for a couple of year but I noticed when I first became pregnant with my daughter about 2 years ago that during my 2nd trimester and throughout my pregnancy my anxiety got better. By the end of my first pregnancy my neck tension and panic attacks totally disappeared (and I have anxiety pretty bad). When I was postpartum I noticed within a few days after giving birth my anxiety came back full force and slightly worse than before I had became pregnant.

Shortly after I had my daughter almost 3 months after I had her I became pregnant again with my son. I am recently still recovering from having him only a couple months ago and noticed as soon as I had him that my anxiety came back. When I was in the hospital recovering my anxiety reached its worse and now that its been a couple months later I noticed my neck tension coming back extremely bad and my anxiety has worsened. I went back on my lexapro after having quit it completely when I was pregnant with my son but it seems to not be helping at all…my psychiatrist prescribed me a muscle relaxer and it still doesn’t seem to be helping with my neck tension and even though I’ve uped the dosage of my lexapro my anxiety is still horrible…=(

I have brought all of my concerns up to my doctor and she says their has been some case studies suggesting that pregnancy can even out hormones and seritonine levels that lead to anxiety and in some people pregnancy has been known to cure their anxiety.

Has anyone experienced anxiety levels lower while pregnant?

If pregnancy helped cure my anxiety would going on birth control do the same (since it tricks your body into thinking its pregnant)?

PLEASE HAS ANYONE EVER EXPERIENCED THIS?

yeah, that can happen. It’s likely the progesterone that causes the calming and low anxiety. Progesterone has a calming effect on the brain in general, and is protective of neural tissue. The reason you started feeling better in the 2nd trimester is that in the 1st trimester, your progesterone is produced by your ovaries, and that is a different type than what is produced in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters by the placenta. For some reason, the placental progesterone is better received than the ovarian progesterone.

As for birth control pills: they don’t trick your body into thinking it’s pregnant–that’s just a glib slogan the marketers of birth control pills came up with in the early days to explain to women in simple terms what the pill did, so they could accept it. But actually, it’s more accurate to say that it mimics the hormone profile present in your body just after your body has produced an egg. It’s hard to say if the pill would help your anxiety or not. The principle you are basing it on is not sound because, first of all, birth control pills do not contain progesterone, they contain an artificial chemical that has a lot of the same effects as progesterone. But it’s not the same. Second, when you take birth control pills, they partly shut down the ovaries, so the hormones in the pill wouldn’t be in addition to those you make in your body, but instead of those you make in your body. Third, we don’t know if your anxiety is related to progesterone levels or not. Fourth: the pill contains estrogen, which is an excitant, and could increase anxiety. Or not. Who knows? But despite all this stuff I’m saying, it may well be worthwhile for you to try the pill and see if it helps. If you are breastfeeding, you might want to take the "mini pill", which is what breastfeeding mothers are prescribed if they want a pill at that time. It is a birth control pill that ONLY has an artificial progesterone in it, no estrogen. So maybe you’ll tolerate it better. Who knows? I’ve tried to explain the mechanism of why you have less anxiety, but neither I nor anyone else actually knows what will happen when you try a pill.

I never knew there was a name for my chronic shyness until Thursday this week. I have suffered all of my life (I’m 26) because of this. I have taken Lebowitz test my score was 105 which is severe Social anxiety. I am not able to get a job or go to school. I can’t make my daughter’s doctors appt., my sisters make most of my important phone calls, I experience the worst anxiety when meeting new people or ordering at restaurants. In high school my gpa suffered because I skipped class or found ways to be absent. My husband is a public speaker and I try to find ways to not attend his events. I hate to answer our phone. He doesn’t understand whats wrong with me but he loves me anyway. I NEED help! I know I need to make an appointment with the doctor, but how do I get the nerve? Am I eligible for SSI? My husband is pressuring me to get a job and I cant stomach the thought. I had to quit my last job as the pressure of interacting stressed me out. Depressed:( Please help! I’m at wit’s end:(
I think it would be wise for me to seek a way to add to my family’s income. I am not an unfit parent in the least. To say so is very insensitive on your part. I have a very dedicated husband and my child is very well taken care of. there is no reason why i should not seek benefits if the government is willing to help while I seek the help I need.

Thanks for your reply.

fYI: The SSI is to help me and my family UNTIL I complete treatment.

PHONE your doctor, make an appointment - force yourself to go. He will decide whether or not to put you on a course of antidepressants (for your depression) and others for your anxiety disorder. He will probably also suggest that you see a psychologist for therapy. Go and change your life - choose life!!
Please be kind to yourself and visit:

You desperately need help.

I don’t have hot flashes yet. I’m 49 and have had hysterectomy but have ovaries.
Any suggestions?

Hi there, fellow sufferer!

You’ve had a ‘partial hysterectomy’, so you don’t have the advantage of your periods to rely on to tell you if you’re going through the menopause.

My guess is, that you are indeed.

Some people aren’t bothered by hot flashes/flushes.

Anxiety and depression is indicated, for some women, during menopause.

Here’s a great site to look at:

http://www.womentowomen.com/understandyourbody/symptoms/default.aspx

Don’t hesitate to go to the Doctor and ask for advice, and possibly meds. You don’t have to suffer like this - many things are available to us now.

Good luck.

Will sleeping pills help anxiety?

Posted by: admin | Comments (7)

I was in a chemist with my friend and side-by-side were 2 Kalms pill bottles; one for sleep and one to ‘ease worry and stress’. I thought getting sleep would ease worry and anxiety so I got the sleep ones. They didn’t help my insomnia but I wonder if I took a very small dose in the day, would it help MAD or GAD or whatever I have?

I am afraid they probably won’t help either anxiety or sleep issues. See your GP for a referral for therapy, ideally CBT, which is statistically far more effective than medication.

Last Tuesday before my 24th birthday..when i was in my music class..i started getting this weird uncontrollable feeling…i felt like i couldn’t control myself..i wanted to get out of the class room right away. I decided to use the restroom to get fresh air…when i went back…the feeling came back and this time it was even more intense..i felt this num feeling all over and couldn’t even sit still…i grab my stuff and ran out of the class room. I wanted to go see a doctor however, my insurance plan didn’t cover doctor visits…i just upgraded my plan ..but, i have to wait 1-2 weeks..finals are coming up i need help to control my anxiety attacks..i went on a date yesterday..and suffered another anxiety attack…this makes me not want to go out anymore…i am a very social person..this is killing me…does anyone suffer from anxiety attack?? what meds did you take…btw, i had another attack today in my class..i just left in the middle of the lecture..help..

oh theres lots of options….but buying them from canada is not a good idea. Lots of counterfiet drugs, and lots of drugs not tested by the fda. Definatly wouldn’t do that. Can you call your dr and ask him to phone in a 25mg zoloft. just an emergency supply until you can get your insurance approved? Also try school nurse.
