I’ve been feeling what i think to be anxiety. My breathing become shallow. My heart feels like it is pounding, and i feel restless. Sometimes i have a lump in my throat. But my blood pressure and pulse are fine. What could cause this and what is it?
Yes, these are tell tale signs of anxiety. You must learn to control your emotions so they don’t effect your bodily function. You must learn breathing and meditation techniques to do this. I would check out my website, it has lots of great information about how to naturally cure anxiety. If you don’t take care of it now, these symptoms can get worse and cause you some major problems in the future.

Does anyone know anything about social anxiety disorder?? I have a horrible time trying to be in rooms full of people and sometimes it’s hard for me to even carry a conversation with one person. It really affects my work life and social life at times because I work in retail and have to attend meetings several times a week. I’ve been to shrinks and tried the meds and all… to no avial. Any suggestions?? My life is good, I just feel like I could do much better if I learned some kind of coping skills, etc… The other night I tried to speak in front of a group of people and my friend said I looked like I was going to pass out!!
There are a couple of options for Social Anxiety Disorder/Social Phobia. The majority of health professionals would advocate a two step approach, first beginging psychological treatment with a counselor or therapist and second seeing a psychiatrist and being put on usually an SSRI anti-depressant. There are on some occasions when a psychiatrist will also use an anti-anxiety med such as Ativan to counteract any panic attacks that may come from the anxiety.
Any psychiatrist worth their M.D. will admit that psychiatry is not an absolute science. One medication may not work for you but it might someone else. You have to be honest with the psychiatrist about your feelings and trust them as much as they must be willing to change tactics if something is not woking.
If you do choose therapy there are a number of types to consider such as immersion therapy, rational-emotive therapy and many others. You should do a little research and find one that makes sense for you. If you want to sit on a couch there is a therapy for you and if you want to be thrown into the deep end and learn to swim that way there is a therapy for that too.
As far as quick fixes there are none. Not to be a jerk but the majority of people who have social phobia often have low self-esteem and need some assistance in improving their self image so they feel equal to others.
Also make sure you are completely honest in your initial session, social phobia is often comorbid with other disorders, meaning there are often other issues that are complicating treatment. Good Luck

Does anyone have severe social anxiety? I mean so severe that it forced you to quit or change jobs. Does it keep you from parties?
I have social anxiety and when I do force myself to go to parties/bars/social events I am completely miserable the whole time. I just sit there completely sick (like I may throw up or have an upset stomach, but never actually do) and too numb to move. I count to 60 over and over in my head so I know I’ve made it through another minute and I’m that much closer to the time to leave. I don’t have my driver’s license (and I’m almost 25!) because not only does the driving itself stress me out (my jaw locks and I sweat like mad), but the driver’s test itself freaks me out. Just the idea of someone in the car with me judging every little thing I do is scary.
Okay, how do you deal with your social anxiety? Do you completely freak out about an upcoming event like a wedding or birthday party? Have you found effective steps that help you through the event?
the most effective technique I have found to help with these things and many more is EFT. ( emotional freedom technique)
You can learn it from a FREE download and that was the first step I took into this AMAZING world of FREEDOM.
to learn more go to http://www.emofree.com
In my experience there will be core issues at the bottom of all these anxieties and so it may be worth (if you can) to work with an experienced EFT practicioner to help it all unfold. There are many listed on the site from all around the world.
The other thing that can really help is to learn BREATHING techniques which help to CALM the body. Good luck.

LAtely ive been waking up at 8 regardless when I go to bed. and when i wake up i usually have the worst heatburn ever or ill throw up and i have terrible anxiety. I do have ocd and i have been stressing about something that happened but even when i think im over it i wake up and feel the same way still. please help!
Heya, it at least sounds like you need to drink some milk or something alkaline before bed to help with the heartburn, but waking up that anxious isn’t something to ignore or treat yourself. It’s almost certainly a form of anxiety.
Please tell your parents or any family member who can advise you, and see your doctor. A doctor is the only person who can diagnose you accurately and professionally, and help! People on here can only offer you ideas and support which is good, but a doctor is your best bet. I hope it gets sorted out very soon hun.

I am a teacher and often dread going to work and interacting with co-workers or students. I suck it up and go everyday and try to put on a happy face, but it’s really hard. I’ve always been afraid that anti-anxiety drugs will make me oversleep or cloud my thinking, so I’ve never talked to my doctor about taking anything. This year, though, I feel like I might not be able to do this job anymore without some kind of medication. Any thoughts? I really do appreciate your help on this one.
I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I’ve been taking that for over two years, and it’s working very well for me.
The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active - and wanting to do things - while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can’t tell I’m taking any medication at all.
