People with anxiety attacks? IS this one of your symptoms?
something bein wrong with your heart??
I felt something weird into my heart and then I got a anxiety attack a bit after that…is it related?? with people with anxiety attacks? please let me know….i felt like a bubble in my chest or something weird that kept bothering me…maybe its just my axiety?

I have seen too many therapist and they are always telling me heart problems are not a symptom of panic disorder. However according to doctors I have spoke to, they relate the heart pains can be related to stress which is a factor with panic attacks but that is in the cases of before the attack occurs.

And natually after a panic attack due to lack of oxygen and increase beating of the heart, pains are natual to occur during and after.

My psychologist is using it as a treatment for me and I feel skeptical. I haven't given it a go yet to test it.
To all the poeple who just want to say it's only a placebo. I don't care if it's a placebo or not. If it cures panic and anxiety or appears to it's good enough by me. When you have agoraphobia you have nothing to lose, so placebo to get me a life……bring it on!!!

to each their own but i have taken medications for this that worked but had various side effects –i settled on avoidance, when posible, learning my triggers and if nothing else ,get into my safe zone

Panic attacks and Exams?

Posted by: admin | Comments (6)

I'm in year 10 and i'm sitting my Trial School Certificate english and science exams tomorrow and i am scared that i will have a panic attack in the middle of it.

I have had about 50 panic attacks over the past 2 months (mostly during the night).
I am in the process of recieving treatment and i have an appointment with a Psychietrist next week.

My question is:
Should i tell my year co-ordinator about my panic attacks so that she can tell my teachers to let me leave the room when i need to?

A) Have your mom write a signed note explaining your problem with panic attacks, then name the Dr you will be seeing.
B) In your mom's note she should request a "modification" or "accomodation" for your testing.
C) As soon as you step onto the school grounds, hand that note to your school counselor / co-ordinator or vice principal (if you don't know who to go to). Verbally ask for a "modification in your testing due to panic attacks"

D) The modification usually offered by the school is that you may take the test in a fairly quiet room where an adult is, that is not the classroom. Sometimes a timed test can be taken without the pressure of limited time.

E) Obtain a written and signed note from your counselor - make copies for yourself and each of your teachers.

F) When at your psychiatrist's do ask that he write you a note on his prescription pad/letterhead requesting a specific modification for your testing. - Make a copy for yourself - Deliver the original to your school counselor to keep on file.

Can anxiety cause chest pains?

Posted by: admin | Comments (6)

I used to smoke cigarettes and smoke weed regualry and about 8 months ago i got a new job.. when i started school after that summer i wasnt able to smoke weed anymore because i would and still do get horrible panic attacks. i also started getting chest pains regulary. I quit smoking everything and started living a healthy lifestyle but i still get these chest pains. Its been about 7 months now and they arnt getting any better. My doctor told me that it could be anxiety and im getting some tests done but im not sure because i only get anxiety attacks when i smoke weed.. otherwise i only have smaller attacks that arnt half as bad. I have however been stressed out beyond since the begining of this school year and im wondering if the stress could be the reason why i experience chest pains.

Yeah, they're probably residual minor panic attacks.

Weed stays in your system longer than we originally thought.

Its probably repeating on you.

I have been on lexapro 20 mg for almost 2 years because of depression, but recently I have been feeling like maybe its not working??? i am wondering what actions to take to get on a good reliable medication that will treat these symptoms:constant tension, worry, (i also have been diagnosed with adult add)-the lack of concentration and drive to do daily activities, low energy, some days i will only get 2 hours of sleep while others I could sleep all day and still wake up tired as hell. I am always tired, and lately i think i have been having panic attacks…in a stressful situation-mostly when i interact with other people. I get this like paranoid feeling that I doing something stupid (maybe i am who knows, i sometimes care…sometimes i don't) or that other people are thinking that I am crazy by the way they look at me or talk to me. i know its wierd. But the anxiety is really start to eat away at me here lately. I don't understand why this happens, i used to be the cont'd…….
I used to be such a sociable interactive person…but the medication just is not working. I have heard of some medications to take this edge off (or chemically balance?) me, but what are some to recommend to talk to my doctor about?

Either you need a different dose of the medication, or you need a different medication. But don't alter the dose on your own - you need to speak to your doctor.

I really think that if you haven't already, you should see a psychiatrist and get a proper evaluation; they can tell you if you're suffering from depression, or anxiety - or a mixture.

They will also switch you to a more effective medication. The SSRIs, such as lexapro, often don't do enough for people.

Do speak to your doctor - you don't have to go on feeling this way!

I work in an office and everyday I seem to get these reocurring symptoms for no reason at all it normally starts in the afternoon my heart starts racing and I get dizzy with a heavy headache which makes my eye sight poor and makes my clumsy. This is turn makes my irritable. What is this and why if there is no reason behind it should I get it my job isn’t stressful?

Your symptoms first need to be checked out by a medical doctor to rule out any physical causes.

If there are no apparent physical causes, it is likely that the symptoms you are experiencing are caused by anxiety. Sometimes anxiety can happen without any identifiable cause. The fact that your symptoms occur in the afternoon suggests that there may be a physical cause (like hypoglycemia) or a pattern that your body has been conditioned into.

If your symptoms are indeed caused by anxiety, you might find that relaxation techniques and calming self-talk are quite effective (see links below for information).

An excellent book on anxiety is “When Panic Attacks,” by David Burns. It describes several techniques for decreasing anxiety. I highly recommend this book.

I have included some links to my website for more information on anxiety symptoms and using relaxation to decrease stress and anxiety. On the relaxation downloads page there is a relaxation audio script entitled “Relaxation to Relieve Anxiety” that might be helpful for you.

Hope this helps!

I know the theory about weakened bones etc if a woman doesn't take it and some women never suffer PMS but having spent half a life held to ransom by hormones, surely it's better for some women when they finally disappear? Has going through the menopause improved your emotional life or do you still suffer from depression, anxiety, anger and all the psychological stuff each menstrual cycle caused?
In the UK, going to an OB/GYN isn't exactly like going to the dentist!! Most women only have one when they are pregnant or have severe problems, so I can't ask someone I don't have. Also, what would be the point of asking someone something if they haven't gone through the menopause?? I'm asking about personal experiences, not professional ones!!

I am taking HRT currently.

I was afraid of it. Not only because of the problems that my own natural levels of hormones caused (PMS, endometriosis, fibrocystic breasts…) But, the media also feeds into the fear of HRT…breast cancer, heart disease, stroke…

Before my hysterectomy (both ovaries removed), I was hypertensive, had 'lumpy' breasts requiring yearly diagnostic mammograms, and my lipid profile sucked.

Nothing has really changed in regards to my blood pressure and lipids except that physicians are more proactive in my care.

My breast tissue is improving. I am counting on a screening mammo this year, no diagnostic mammo.

PMS. That is a different issue. I never honestly addressed this with any physician. Hind sight allows me to realize that it was a much bigger issue than I was willing to give credit to. I didn't want to be labeled. I work in health-care. Complaints of depression, anger, etc negates everything, especially if you are a menstruating female.

I still take medications since HRT. But, overall, things are more stablized. I allowed myself to experience a taste of menopause prior to starting HRT. I didn't like it.

I'll wean myself off of the hormones in a decade or so. But, for now, I'll continue with my prescriptions. I am in my 30's. I have a family. I prefer the consistent levels of hormones I have now. I don't have the time and energy to address all the concerns and complaints of full-blown menopause at this point in my life.

Good luck.

Beccy (below) is right.

I see an RE. A reproductive endocrinologist.

Menopause Question?

Posted by: admin | Comments (3)

I am 42 and 6 months ago the Doctor said I was Peri-menopausal. I hormone test came back 41.9 which he said was post menopaual numbers. i missed 5 periods and then started back having periods every month. Some times early some times late, but every month. I also have anxiety disorder. My Question is : I am living in hell on earth. I am so forgetful I can't remember what I am doing from one to the next. I have anxiety attacks almost every day now. I feel so nerves I can't keep it together. I have headaches that are so bad. I am dizzy all the time and I hurt in my back and legs. Is this menopause or somthing eles.
I also have blurried vision. And feel like my mind is running away with me. All bad thoughts. LOL

You may have some menopause going on but it sounds like you may also have something else going on as well. I am peri-menopausal as well and don't near that much trouble. Of course we are all different. If this becomes unbearable then I would contact your doctor there are medicines they can give you to help with this. I could be wrong though don't panic because it is not like that for me everyone is different.

i mean could they prevent or delay it? do they act the same effect as each other? how much does stress prevent pregnancy? how much would having anxiety prevent it? i have anxiety medicine that i only took three days/three times only

Stress and anxiety alone doesn’t make it harder to conceive. What it can do is mess up your ovulation. If you don’t pay attention to your fertility signs, it’s easy for someone who typically has a 30 day cycle, to get stressed out about not conceiving which could cause ovulation to become delayed. Stressing just delays ovulation, it doesn’t prevent it. Anxiety would probably work like stress. If you have anxiety, it would be worth it to talk to your doctor about a med to take which would be safe for pregnancy.
