hey
I'm sure that this is hypochondria because a person with hypochondria has a preoccupying fear of having a serious illness. This conviction persists despite appropriate medical evaluation and reassurance of good health.
People with hypochondria are obsessed with bodily functions and interpret normal sensations (such as heart beats, sweating, and bowel movements) or minor abnormalities (such as a runny nose, a small sore, or slightly swollen lymph nodes) as symptoms of serious medical conditions.
They may also focus on vague and ambiguous physical sensations, like "a sore liver" or "tired veins." One form of this disorder involves a preoccupation with a single organ (such as the lungs) or disease (for example, cancer). Negative results of diagnostic examinations do little to decrease a patient's anxiety about his or her health, and he or she continues to seek medical attention.
I hope my answer help you
have a nice day
I have a great bf that i love a lot, but our relationship seems to be in danger because of various fights that we had. I just realized it might because he is suffering from anxiety.
How can i help him? How can i try to relax him?
thank you armchair psychiatrish butytwipe
My father is suffering from thyroid and anxiety disorder. To make things worse, he is partially blinded. My family is trying our best to help him - giving him the support and attention, talking and listening to him, but it seems like it is not working at all. He has this gambling habit as he want to pay the family's debts (but we could not afford the money for him to gamble so sometimes he would borrow from others to gamble). He is also very isolated because he is adopted and his foster parents always emotionally abused him so he had been struggling to survive since young. This caused him to accumulate all the hatred and thus, small issues that we talk to him now will make him extremely agitated and angry. Now that we are poor, a lot of relatives avoided my family and especially my father. We tried a few counselors but all are unsuccessful in treating him. We also try to find some part time jobs for him but he did not want to work. I am really lost and hope someone will help me out.
Did you know that gambling is one symptom of Bipolar Disorder (formerly called Manic Depression). Also, irritability and mood swings are symptoms for Bipolar Disorder. You need to get your father an appointment with a psychiatrist as soon as possible. If he gets worse before the appointment, take him to the emergency room. Your father needs medical attention. Mental Illness is nothing to be ashamed of. It's usually a chemical imbalance in the brain or as you have said child abuse while growing up. He also needs to see a clinical psychologist. The psychiatrist can refer you to one. If you don't have insurance, call your local mental health center and get him an appointment as soon as possible. Good luck.
I haven't been diagnosed with social anxiety but I know that this is what I have. I don't know how to go about finding a doctor because I don't have a regular one.
Your best bet is to call a local hospital and get a list of doctors in your area and make an appointment. Explain to the doctor your symptoms. You and the doctor can decide together how best to treat your symptoms. Good luck
I never had any problems with social anxiety before. I always did what I wanted not what I shouldve done or what seems normal. I said whatever I wanted and was very open minded, I was always my self. But I had problem with meeting girls and having dates. So I read this book dating book ,it said what you need to do and how do you need to act to get girls. What king of humor to use ,what to say , when to say and what to do in lots of different situations. So I started trying those stuff out.Well they did work I had girls want to be around much more, call me and had dates. But after a while I started watching my behavior make sure it exactly is as it says in the book, my body language, my voice tone, my jokes ,my face expression,my posture, said jokes I usually wouldn't say if I was acting my self. I was really fake it wasnt me. So in the end of the day I felt really bad. And now I am so obssed if I act right , if I look right, that I am having terrible panic anxiety? What should I do?
Social anxiety is mental and is based allot off of ones self-esteem. There are medications for panic attacks that can help. The most important thing is not to care what people think and think as yourself as good looking. Personality will always stand out over looks in the long run. Just remember to think positive and stop worrying about what people might think.
And did people get it say 50 year ago?
And do all people with social anxiety disorder have something in common, whatever that may be?
Research into the causes of social anxiety and social phobia is wide-ranging, encompassing multiple perspectives from neuroscience to sociology. Scientists have yet to pinpoint the exact causes. Studies suggest that genetics can play a part in combination with environmental factors.
here are a list of possible causes
I suffer horrible social anxiety, but I don't want to use drugs that could make me dependent or cause erectile dysfunction
Pardon my snicker, Cavor. If your SAD is so bad, you won't have any opportunities for sex, you know, so the ED side effect some drugs give some people is totally a non-issue…
Okay, on to a serious answer. The drugs are not intended for permanent or long-term use. They're to ease the transition from being unable to handle normal social situations to working through them until they're no longer beyond you.
You don't just take the drugs and everything's fine. You take the drugs and work with your counselor (often a psychologist) on exercises and practice sessions of increasing difficulty for you, from the kind you'd hate but could do (phone calls? raising your hand in class?) up to the kind that would leave you paralyzed with fear (asking out a beautiful girl)–were it not for the drugs.
You continue your SAD exercises, practicing daily, as you're weaned off the drugs. Most people take them for a few months, then stop "cold turkey" without any difficulty. But you're not off the hook. You continue the exercises indefinitely.

I suffer from severe social anxiety if I am in a situation where I have to interact with people.I find even being around my own immediate family members threatening. I fumble over my words and clam up. People think I am strange as I am so quiet!!
I dont think I have anything they would be interested in listening to, so I hold back from talking.
hi i have also suffered from social phobias for many many years its got to the point where i do not leave the house and im even afraid to go down stairs in my house ,sometimes i cant even answer the phone and definately cant make phone calls myself. ive been taken off the register at drs and dentists because i dont go to the appointments but im too scared to call them and explain ,which is actually so sick its funny babe stay in the world thats my advice dont lock yourself away like me its hard work being scared all the time isnt it , you have an advantage you know this is happening for me it crept up on me and im now crippled with fears i cant even eat cooked food and live on rice crispies and mini chedders ,its comical when i think about how sad i am. but you know your weakness tell someone get help now while your feeling strongest. you deserve to be happy and free go to your drs tomorrow and tell them this is happening ,it will surprise you how common it is and how much you can do for your self be strong babe cx.
I think I might have social anxiety disorder, but I don't want to go talk to a therapist and find out it's just shyness. that would be embarrassing.
I am not an expert, but I have been diagnosed with social phobia. Are you scared to go into stores because you can't handle interacting with the person at the register? Do you feel like it's your job to make a restaurant's waitstaff feel good/happy? Are you scared to call people on the phone? Are you scared to answer the phone? Do you avoid almost everyone you know? If you are "shy" around people you have known for a long time, then that is a good indication as well. If you feel worn out from taking care of people's emotions, then that may also be a sign of social anxiety. Do you have a fear of what people will think of you? Even strangers? Are you scared to be yourself? Do you feel like you need to put a face on when interacting with people? Like you may be having the worse day of your life, but you act like the happiest, most outgoing person when talking to the person selling you a movie ticket? If you answer yes to some of these questions, then you are probably more likely to have social anxiety then be shy. Being shy means you are slow to warm to people, but once you do then you feel at ease. Good luck!
my friend wants to know and is too stubern to ask somone so I am =D
